Introduction

Don’t abandon your Astro C40 TR controller if it has some drift problems! With a new joystick module, some screwdrivers, and minor effort, it’ll be as good as new.

Apart from being able to use a screwdriver, this guide requires no prerequisite on technical background.

You will need:

An H.20 Hexagonal Screwdriver
A 30mm TORX Screwdriver
A joystick module for replacement

Disconnect your controller from the computer and turn off the wireless mode.

Use the H.20 Hex screwdriver to loosen two screws on each side of the joysticks.
Tilt the controller upside down to remove the face cover.
Don't panic if the joystick falls off! It can be placed back on.

Hold the module base and pull off the top to detach it from the joystick.
Remove the joystick module's screws using the TR30 screwdriver.
Push the top to pop out the main part of the joystick.
If you have a whole new joystick module then you can skip to step 6.

Plug the main part for replacement into the joystick module frame.
Make sure to align the main part and the base frame!

Reassemble the joystick module and plug it back into the controller.
Make sure that the main part and base frame of the module is tightly screwed together.
When you plug the joystick module back in, align the module and the controller.

Reassemble the controller.
Tighten the screws of the face cover.
If you find it's difficult to tighten the screws on the face cover, don't force it. It probably means that the joystick and controller are not aligned correctly!

Recalibrate the controller so that the new joystick is detected by the driver.
Connect the controller with your computer and switch it to wire-connect mode (at the top right of the controller).
Push the button on the back of the controller and hold until the controller vibrates. Release, and repeat.
