Thank you for this concise post. How does one know it is the power supply to change? I hear a humming sound when I plug in (after 30 second button push reset), but no display or lights.

Would like to know a reliable source for the

A9T80-80006 power adapter that does not cost 1/3 rd the price of a new printer

Mark Stephen - Réponse

How can you test if the power supply is good or bad?

Alex Hulinsky - Réponse

Remove PS from the printer and using an ohm meter, check primary coil to be sure it is not open.

If continuity is present, check for continuity on the 12volt and 32volt secondary output coils.

If any of the continuity tests fail, consider the power supply to be defective.

the power supply has a green LED on it, and after testing it for voltages, it seemed to be working properly. There is a sleep voltage when the unit is sleeping and a working voltage. But we still had no action or lights on the printer…this was a really nice printer for the money. D’OOOH!!

I did steps 1-4 but I can’t figure out how to “slide” the box out. There doesn’t seem to be way for it to be released from where it’s at.

I just put a small flat head screwdriver down along the front edge and it popped right up. Like other comments here that have not been addressed even as of 3 days ago…I have a green LED lights up with the power cord plugged directly into it, however it still will not power up using the power button.

I was able to remove the power converter unit, and ran the power cable from the back of the printer directly to the power unit. the power unit LED lights up, but the printer still will not turn on. Bad power unit? Bad switch?

Stew Fernee - Réponse

Hi Stew - did you find a resolution to this? I am experiencing the same thing where I plug my power unit into the wall directly and the green light illuminates. Wondering why my printer is still not powering on?

J Lee -

I’m having the same issue. all power cords & power supply are functional after being tested with a voltage meter and yet printer will not turn on. bought new cords & power supply box within the printer and still nothing. If anyone else has a solution. please let us know.

SO if the power supply box is damaged where do I buy a new one ?

First of all, you’ve got the WRONG part number for the power supply. It’s A9T80-60008, NOT -80006.

I googled the power supply part number “A9T80-60008” and found:

1. https://parts.hp.com

- Find your part: OfficeJet 4630 (to see all available parts) or A9T80-60008 (to just find that part)

- as of 11/23/2020 it’s $17.78 + shipping ($11.25 in my case)

2. I searched on amazon.com for “A9T80-60008” or“A9T8060008” (without the hyphen) or “4630 power supply” and found a “compatible” made-in-China product:

- as of 11/23/2020 it’s $16.99 + shipping (free shipping if your order is over $25)

I imagine #1 is a reliable source, I can’t vouch for #2. Unfortunately, replacing the power supply did not bring my nonworking HP OfficeJet 4630 back to life.

Martin Computer Guy - Réponse

Thank you for posting the info on the correct part # and where to purchase it. I went ahead and spent the $31 despite your comment of how a new power supply did not resolve your issues with your printer, in hopes that maybe it will mine.

I was able to remove the power supply box and as other commenters posted, I also got a green light on the box when plugging the power cord directly into it, but when I pressed the power on button on the printer, I get NOTHING. Still dead. So I have purchased a new power supply from HP at https://parts.hp.com and entering the part #A9T80-60008 — part was $17.78 plus an additional S&H fee & Tax…came out to $31.64 —- HOPE IT SOLVES the problem, or unfortunately I’m off to purchase a different printer and I doubt I’ll be giving HP another go.

Thanks for all the posts. I have the same situation. I can get the power supply to turn the green light on and it hums but the printer does not turn on. Must be the on off button or something. I am not going to spend the time or effort to diagnose further. This will be my last HP printer.

I also am experiencing this problem. I don't know if it's in protection mode or what. It will not power up after I shut down trying to reset error message to replace black ink cartridge.

David P Demello -

We did the same thing. Replaced the black ink cartridge and will not power up. We did use it immediately aftward and worked fine now it is Totally. Dead. We can’t get the new cartridge out either

Laura Ligan - Réponse

Has anyone had any luck replacing the power supply?

Marcia Raymond - Réponse

Similar story here. The power supply seems to be working: green LED on, 32V DC on the power output connector, but the printer doesn't power up. I don't think we are dealing with power supply failures. The problem is most likely somewhere else.

Paul Jurczak - Réponse

Having the same problem as above. Power supply voltages are OK. Still seems to be dead. Watched a video showing how to dismantle the printer. Noted that when the narrator got to the "logic board" there appeared to be a large watch-type battery. Could this have died and causing problems? Printer has been in service since Jan '13 doing typical home use printing. Is there a fuse in the printer?
