Introduction

High quality turntables are only as good as the stylus and cartridge actually playing the records. Learn how to replace these components as they wear out over time.

  1. Identify headshell by opening the turntable dustcover.

  2. Remove the stylus from the cartridge.

  3. Turn the tonearm nut toward you to release the headshell from the tonearm.

  4. Remove screws with a Phillips #0 screwdriver to release the cartridge.

    • Use standard turntable head screws found at a local audio shop if missing.

  5. Unplug the wires from the pins.

  6. Replace with a new cartridge.

    • Plug pins in reverse from removal.

    • Pay attention to matching the colors from wire to pin.

    • Rescrew the cartridge in the same way it was removed.

  7. Insert the new stylus into cartridge before mounting headshell.

  8. Screw assembled headshell onto the tonearm.

  9. Test new needle and allow for a break-in period.
