    • Turn the device upside down and then locate the battery latch near the front of the device.

    • Slide the latch to the left to release the battery.

    • Continue holding the latch then gently pull the battery out of the device.

    • Place the battery in a safe location.

    • Locate the CD-ROM Drive latch.

    • Slide the latch to the right to release the CD ROM drive.

    • Continue holding the latch then gently pull the CD-ROM Drive out of the device.

    • Place the CD ROM drive in a safe location.

    • Locate the speaker cover.

    • Press firmly on each end of the speaker cover and slide it to the left.

    I found it was easy to get a spudger over the left edge and lift it up a bit, then push the bar to the left, It pops right off after that.

    • Gently lift the speaker cover to remove it.

    • Lift the keyboard up from the back using a spudger(wedge side).

    • Gently lift the keyboard until only the ribbon cable remains attached.

    • Tilt the keyboard away from the screen.

    • Locate the six screws that secure the heatsink.

    This is not necessary to remove the HDD. Go directly to step 20.

    • Remove the six screws from the heatsink using the Philips #1 screwdriver.

    • Lift the heatsink from the side closest to the laptop screen.

    • Remove the heatsink.

    • Gently pull up on the beige ribbon lock until it moves a short distance on both sides to separate the ribbon cable from the connector.

    • Detach the ribbon cable.

    • Remove the keyboard.

    • Locate and identify the two screws that attach the hard drive to the computer.

    • Remove the screws with a Phillips #0 screwdriver.

    • Once the screws are removed, lift up the end of the hard drive using your finger tips.

    • Fully lift the hard drive vertically against the side of the computer.

    • Push a finger down onto the plastic strap.

    • Remove the hard drive from the computer by pushing down on the plastic strap and pulling up on the hard drive.

    its really a PITA to get an ide hdd back into this.. the hdd sits in this aluminium cage and you cant just stick it onto the ultra short ribbon cable because this case has a small latch on the back that has to be inserted into the side of the hdd bay.

Hi iFixIt thanks for all the details BUT the keyboard can indeed stay in

when changing the hard drive. Just slide it a bit to the right after step

11, the ribbon cble does not take any damage. SO: from step 12 jump

straight to step 20. The heat sink can stay untouched, which i find not

unimportant to mention. Regards, TB75
