Olympus C-765 Motherboard Replacement

    • Remove all nine screws that hold the back plate in place with the Phillips #00 Screwdriver. The screws are located on the back, the base (bottom), right, and left sides of the camera.

    • Unscrew the 4mm screw that is directly to the right of the viewfinder on the back side of the camera.

    • On the base (bottom):

    • Unscrew the 3mm screw in the top left corner.

    • Unscrew all four 3mm screws under the battery cover.

    • Unscrew the 3mm screw on the right side panel.

    • Unscrew the two 2mm screws on the left side panel.

    • The bullets are color-coded to match the images that accompany this step.

    • Remove the back panel completely.

    • Rock the two ribbon cables gently out of their sockets. For more on disconnecting ribbon cables, look here.

    • Grasp and pull the white cable out of its clip with metal tweezers.

    • The bullets are color coded with the corresponding images.

    • On the suface of the motherboard:

    • Peel off the plastic sheets.

    • Unscrew the two 3mm screws holding it in place using the Phillips #00 Screwdriver.

    • Gently separate the seven ribbon cables from the motherboard. For more information on disconnecting ribbon cables, look here.

    • There is one directly below the viewfinder (Image 1, blue).

    • Two are on the base of the camera (Image 2, blue).

    • There are three at the top right of the motherboard, near the selector wheel. One is on the top of the board, and two are on the underside (Image 1, green).

    • The final one is in the center of the board, near the central hole (Image 1, yellow).

    • Remove the two white plastic clips from their sockets with metal tweezers. One is on the base of the board (Image 2, red) and the other is on the surface (Image 1, red).

    • The bullets apply to all three picture included with this step.

    • Remove the single 3 mm ground screw attached to the right side of the camera body using the Philips #00 Screwdriver.

    • The motherboard has two solder connections that need to be desoldered to remove the board (Image 1, red). Use the soldering iron to desolder the connections. For more information on desoldering, look here.

    • Don't attempt to desolder the joints without previous knowledge of soldering.

    • When soldering, avoid touching any of the other components with the soldering iron by accident. You may damage them.

    • Once the motherboard is removed, a new motherboard can be installed in its place.
