With opening picks we start to open the watch by lifting up the display bottom from left (about seven o'clock) in counterclockwise direction. In the left side there is a flexband that has to be disconnected.

thanks , I managed to fix my pebble time steel with this guide. it may not be waterproof but at least my buttons no longer stick…
I think the reason it failed was because some water already got inside… could get my pebble starting anymore

I would've liked to add an additional step, but it doesn't appear that I can - one other thing that I've found can cause buttons to stick is in the inside of the casing, on each button there's a little circlip that sits in a detent on the pokey bit - if this comes out of its detent, then the button can become quite hard to press and hard to work with.
