Introduction

If the device is having trouble reading disks, the laser may need to be replaced.

  1. Remove the five exposed 7.9 mm phillips screws with the spudger.
    • Remove the five exposed 7.9 mm phillips screws with the spudger.

    • Punch through the warranty sticker with the spudger and remove the screw underneath.

  2. Remove the rubber feet with the screwdriver.
    • Remove the rubber feet with the screwdriver.

    • Remove the screws that the rubber feet were covering.

  3. Lift up the cover gently.
    • Lift up the cover gently.

    • The tray is still connected to the base with wires.

  4. Remove the wires with tweezers by gently pulling on the base they are attached to.
    • Remove the wires with tweezers by gently pulling on the base they are attached to.

  5. Remove the large connector. Remove the small connector.
    • Remove the large connector.

    • Remove the small connector.

  6. Remove Philips screws with #0 Philips Screwdriver.
    • Remove Philips screws with #0 Philips Screwdriver.

  7. Lift up the black piece connected to the wires.
    • Lift up the black piece connected to the wires.

    • Lift gently because ribbon cable is attached to bottom.

  8. Unlock the lock clip Unlock the lock clip
    • Unlock the lock clip

  9. Remove the T6 screws with the T6 screwdriver.
    • Remove the T6 screws with the T6 screwdriver.

  10. Gently pull rods out with tweezers.
    • Gently pull rods out with tweezers.

    • Be sure the laser is out of the way so that the rods can be removed.

  11. Be careful when removing the rods because a fragile metal piece may break. Pull laser off of the rods.
