Introduction

Thanks mate, squeezed on the battery (in towards the controller) as I inserted the cable and the light appeared on the cable. Before I tried just plugging it in to no help in result of the led indicator on the cable. But this solved it, thought I had a faulty battery/controller for a sec. Saved me some bucks there, much appreciated
Glad it worked for you. Thanks for leaving a comment. Please note though I had this issue but as it turns out it was my controller. I did end up buying a new one. But in a pinch or at 2am this will help and keep you from tossing the %#*@ thing out the window.
Doesn’t work. Tried a know working battery from my other controller (which works in that controller), to no avail. Tried another battery from another controller that it works, nothing. The problem is the controller, not my battery (which is new).
Worked for me thanks man!
This did work! At first I thought I had damaged the cable since I used it to charge a phone. I used a tiny piece of packing foam and at first it didn't seem to work. Then it occured to me, I have a second controller! So I pulled out the battery and used the cable and it worked. So I confirmed the battery and the cable were good, I repeated the method on the first controller and it worked. Thanks for the tip!
**Some background the controllers are three months old and the Play and Charge kit is brand new.
This solution worked for me. Bought MS Xbox one play and charge kit in Feb 2020, just got around to trying it and found it wouldn’t charge the battery pack, though the cable would power the controller . I had spare weatherstrip draught proofing foam and used a small piece of that.
Thank you.
Works fine. Brandnew Xbox One controller with charge kit wouldn’t charge. Piece of foam, voila working. Had to put the piece of foam a bit more towards the LB side.
Works, just used a small piece of cardboard. - There’s obviously a few tolerance problems in the tooling.
I added the cardboard as advised, but my controller still won’t charge. The white light on the usb comes on and the controller is working fine, however the amber light won’t come on. It is showing that my battery is fully charged, but when i disconnect the cable, pops up with controller battery low and then my controller switches off.
Any other Ideas on how to tackle this? my one x controller is only 2 years old and it has been working fine. Play and charge kit is from 2015 but that shouldn’t really matter, or do you think the battery might have gone? Thanks in advance
Update to my previous comment: OK so i tried again and this time the orange light on the USB lights up, but only for about 30 seconds and then turns back to the white colour indicating that the battery is fully charged (obviously that isn’t the case). Do you think possibly faulty battery? Or should i add a bit more cardboard / foam ?
I have a similar problem. The led on the cable lights up white when I know the battery needs charging and the xbox battery indicator on screen shows it to not be charging. I don’t now what the answer is!
Works fine for me (with cartboard). Try diffrent sizes of this cartboard Square. Probably it is diffrent for each controller. Thank you very much bbhsascha <3
Worked a treat, thanks very much!
Yes, it works. I couldn’t believe it has this kind of issue until I tried.
It worked for me. Thank you! Just wondering for how long will it last?
I’m glad it worked for you. For me it worked for about a week before I bought a new controller and battery pack. I’m theory it will work until the foam can no longer expand. You should be able to just change the foam.
Didn’t have any Low-Density Foam Weatherstrip Tape, but i managed fold some thick paper from a rollie paper packet instead and it worked, kinda blown away tbh, thanks!
i just put a bit of pressure while i was inserting the battery while the usb was plugged in and it worked- first i cleaned the connectors on the battery lol. thanks so much
This fix worked for me. Brand new controller with brand new play & charge kit. pretty disappointing Quality Control from Microsoft…
I think the alignment of the contacts in the battery pack to the controllers are not optimal. The fit is not right. This should be fixed by the designers. Very bad design indeed!
I got the new battery that does not includes the light in the cable in the old battery the controller shake when i plugged it in but now it doesn’t and does not charge
Thanks! This worked and just saved me from buying a new Play n Charge kit :D
Perfect, sometimes it is so easy, thanks for this good explanation ✊
This worked for me and I didn’t even use the foam. I just lightly pressed the battery in place.
Having said that, I am not getting a light on my cable but I can see it’s charging from my dashboard.
Thanks!
Super wierd... it worked.. Thanks. then I suppose that something inside is not working as it should, maybe I will open up and check later. thanks!
THANK YOU VERY MUCH! I used a piece of paper and put it the same way you did and it worked! Thanks again for this fix 👌💪💪
Incredible! Simple fix to a really annoying broken design. Did work at first try! 🤩
Worked! Orange light finally came on…. white keeps coming on premature tho…battery is toast im guessing
