Introduction
In this guide, we will be looking at adjusting the trimpots on the PS1 SCPH-5501 Fat model. The reason I am doing this is to show you how to get some extra life out of a failed Fat PS1. It is quite common for the laser assembly to stop working on these. If your unit went this long before the laser quit, consider yourself very lucky. A lot of these died earlier then this. This model has a piece of crap laser assembly. No replacement will ever bring the unit back long term, so avoid replacement if you can.assembly that is known to fail like this. You can replace them all day, but they all fail in this fashion, or from plastic wear. You are better off doing an adjustment to get more time from it.adjusting it until the point the motor doesn't spin slow enough for the unit and stops trying, or the laser no longer responds or even replacing the PlayStation with a superior model.
