Great, my ipod is working again!!!
I made some changes though. I simply cut the orange battery ribbon cable in step 6 about 0.5 inch below the brown latch. Then I could open the ipod as shown in picture step 7, which made it easy to lift up the latch and remove the remaining ribbon cable (better accessibility). I also changed the order a little when re-assembling: first I re-inserted the new battery ribbon cable while the ipod was still open on the table, and only then turned the metal back case onto the plastic front and at the same time placed the battery pack back in place onto the old adhesive. This may also be helpful if no enough slack in the new battery ribbon cable.
Great, my ipod is working again! I made some changes though which facilitated the removal of the orange battery ribbon cable from the brown latch (step 6). I actually cut the orange ribbon cable half an inch below the latch, which allowed me to open the ipod. This made it quite easy to lift up the brown latch and remove the cable due to better accessibility. I also changed the order when re-assembling: I first re-attached the ribbon cable of the new battery while the ipod was still open (as shown in the image of step 7) i.e. before placing the battery pack back in place., Once the cable was tight in the latch, I placed the metal back case of the ipod over the plastic front and at the same time pressed the new battery pack back in place onto the old adhesive. Made it much easier....
