I have a Macbook Pro 2.33 late 2006 with SSD, so still pretty fast with Snow Leopard. I find Lion a bit slow compared to Snow Leopard. Would like to try Mountain Lion due to compatibility with a few of my apps. People have mentioned that Safari doesn't work well with Mountain Lion. Is it only Safari, or all browsers? Not a deal breaker, as I use Firefox anyway. So, how does Mountain Lion run on that Macbook Pro? Faster than Lion but slower than Snow Leopard?
Update: just found some info at the Apple Support site. Link: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?... Under "Mac OSX 10.6 Help: if the sleep indicator light flashes". They write that, at startup: "If you don’t hear beeps, but the sleep indicator light flashes five times when you start it up or wake it from sleep, its battery may need service. Take the battery to an Apple Authorized Service Provider, such as an Apple Retail Store". And I am having battery issues, in that the Macbook won't boot from battery. I will try to check the battery in another Macbook.
Update: On boot I have just seen that the front Sleep light on the Macbook blinks/flashes 5 (five) times. No beeps. I did a quick check on the web re. the meaning of the 5 blinks, but didn't find anything specific to the Macbook. I did find, though, that it's a recognized issue with the Macbook Air, and it refers to battery problems. Specifically, the MB Air has the SAME black screen issues that I have, while getting the 5 blinks at boot. More of a problem on the MB Air, obviously, in that its battery is built-in. Anyway, I'm trying to cover all bases here, so I've scrounged up another good battery and have left it charging in my Macbook overnight. Will see if that changes anything. Any ideas re. the Sleep light blinking/flashing 5 times? Mayer: thanks for all your help. I'll check the serial number and pass the info on to you ASAP. Re. firmware, I found the relevant page at Apple Support, which has a table showing the appropriate EFI Boot Rom and SMC firmware for all Macs. For my Early 2008 Macbook 4,1: I...
Updates: I was able to clone my working 10.6.7 from a 2.1 Macbook to the 2.4 in FW disk mode. The 2.4 showed up as a boot disk in System Prefs. I shut everything down and went back to the 2.4 Macbook. Booted, but got 3 flashing lights, so bad RAM. Replaced the RAM, tried to boot, the Apple logo came up, the boot process started, the spinning cog wheel went on for about 2 minutes, then the screen suddenly went black and the Macbook went into Sleep. I replaced the hard drive and tried to boot from a Retail Snow Leopard DVD, it booted fine, then the screen went black at about the same time as before. I could still hear the DVD spinning up and I'm pretty sure it got to the Install window. With the screen still black, I waited for the DVD to spin a bit more, then I hit Enter and it sounded like it was ready to install. At that point, I connected an external monitor, but it didn't get a signal from the Macbook. I rebooted and then the external display received a video signal and I got to the Snow Leopard install...
Hi. I still have 3 Pismos all going strong, one I use at home and the other 2 used by my mother in law (!) and sister. Best cost-effective upgrades are 2 x 512MB PC133 RAM to take it to 1GB total, which is good to run Tiger 10.4.11 and all the apps you'd ever need (if you're still using a Pismo, i.e. you're not doing video editing, playing the latest games, etc.). The 2 modules of RAM should run you about $50-60. Note that they're compatible with the Titanium PowerBook G4's and G3 iBooks, so you would have no problem re-selling them in the future to recoup your money. Also get a bigger, faster IDE hard drive: as many GB as you think you'll need and 5400rpm, e.g. a 100-120GB drive should run you $50 or so. So that's 2 excellent upgrades for about $100. I've installed Combo CDRW-DVD units in all my Pismos to replace the original DVD/CD reader. Easy to do and there are LOTS of options out there: see xlr8yourmac for feedback on models. You can also opt for a PCMCIA card if you can't find the Airport card...
Looking for some HELP here, if anyone can help out.
Macbook Pro 15 2.33 had problem with defective left fan. Didn't turn on. I installed Macs Fan Control and tried to change fan speed, but it didn't show up in menu, so concluded it was broken.
I replaced it with a left fan listed as compatible with this model and with the next series, from 2007.
As soon as I booted up the computer with the replaced fan, it came on at full throttle and never slowed down. As soon as I press the power button, the left fan comes on.
So ended up with opposite problem! Left side is now very cool, but super noisy!
The install seemed to go okay, so I don't know what the problem might be. I reset SMC and PRAM, but no change.

Hi. The little metal clip that holds the camera fell out for me too. Where exactly do you reinstall it and how does it line up? Thanks.
