I swapped my burnt SuperDrive with a Matshita BluRay drive. It's actually a very easy swap.

Have you tried to start-up the machine from your Snow Leopard Install Disc? Is Snow Leopard already installed on the machine or is it running Leopard? If it is, you may have to upgrade to the most recent version of Leopard before you install Snow Leopard. It's not always a hardware problem. HTH ;P

Try to find yourself an ASD (Apple Service Diagnostic) disc for that model. (ASD 3S108) I think you might look here.

you can put a 2.16 or 2.33 Ghz C2D cpu in that machine. i upgraded mine to a 2.33 with help from mayer and others on this site.

I had a stuck install DVD in my machine (which was dead at the time). I used a pair of surgical tweezers with ends wrapped in duct tape to ill it out of the drive. (They use something similar at The Apple Store) It worked easily and I didn't even scratch the disc. You could also try booting with the mouse button pressed which may work if it is drawing power from your Logic Board. Good luck.

It's hard to say based on the info you have provided, but I think you need to replace the Power Supply. You should do all of the normal tests such as resetting the SMC/SMU, reset the PRAM, and remove and reseat/replace the RAM. HTH. :)`

It sounds like a RAM problem to me. Remove and reseat or replace the RAM. It is normal for the front LED to go off after startup. It means the machine is communicating with the monitor. If the light does not go off after startup, it may be your logic board. You could also reset the SMC/SMU and/or check the internal LEDs. And you could also try to score yourself an Apple Service Diagnostic disc for that model (ASD 3S108 I believe). HTH. Good luck!

Hi, Since you replaced the RAM and reset the SMC/SMU, the lack if a 3rd LED is an indicator that the machine is not communicating with the display, so the next step for me would be to reset the PRAM. Also, does the front LED go off after startup? That would indicate that the main logic board has communicated with the LCD display for video signal and your main logic board should be good but if the light stays on then it's your logic board, the inverter or a failed LCD screen. I had problem similar to yours with a 2.16 Ghz iMac and I had to replace the screen. I hope this helps. Oh, I would also recommend checking all connections/wiring. Good luck! I forgot to mention plugging it into an external display.

I had this same problem recently and it turns out that it was caused by the Soundflower app. If you have installed Soundflower, uninstall, reboot and adjust your settings and that should do the trick. HTH :)
