Yes. Apple is a screwed up company. Do not put 3rd party batteries in their equipment until someone publishes a simple way to get around the update problems. Remember, you do NOT actually buy Apple hardware. It’s essentially a lease they can terminate at any time they want.
CAREFUL!! I replaced my 4S battery about a year ago, and tried to do an IOS update this morning. The itunes stuff wiped the whole phone and essentially bricked it after showing error 29. Apple Support says I need to have an authorized repair facility put in a genuine Apple battery. On a 4S? Are they crazy? I have 7 IOS devices and will be dumping them all in favor of Samsung. Not only is Apple locking their batteries, they are actively killing old equipment under the fake mantra of shady 3rd party stuff (that’s as good or better than their original stuff).
Does changing the battery on an older phone (4S) cause itunes and IOS to fail a restore and update? I have a 4S with ifixit battery in it that has been working well for at least a year or so. This morning I hooked it to itunes because I was running 9.3.5 on it and had heard there is a 9.3.6. Not only did itunes not update the code, it caused a complete wipe of the phone and reports “error 29”. Apple Support claims that’s what happens when you put a 3rd party battery into their phones. Seems very wrong that they would be bricking older equipment rather than just warning you about it.
