On the dock cable, there are 3 metallic strips on the underside. And these are stuck to 3 softy metallic cushiony-pads on the ipad itself. Do these act as some kind of ground / earth? Is it important to ensure that the pads align up with the metal strips on the rear of the replacement cable? Is it necessary to apply adhesive at these points? In which case tape is no good presumably. I cant see why there would be these 3 metal strips on the cable which line up perfectly with these 3 metal pads unless there was a reason? But nobody comments that this is important. So ... is it? :) I have an issue with the home button not working and the contacts are on the dock and I'm trying to eliminate how important (or not) the aligment of the replacement cable over the metal pads is.
