Ifixit parts are reliable. More expensive, and a little longer shipping, but the best I’ve found. Others often work well, but ifixit has always worked well for me. Regretting having bought a cheaper 7+ screen. Jeff Suovanen @jeffsu gave a good response re compatibility, (on the repair guide)and this link: https://webuylcds.co.uk/2018/05/15/touch-compatibility-issues-with-iphone-7-7-8-8-screens/ It looks like you have to take apart the screen to find the serial number. Unfortunately, the screen in my repair doesn’t match any of these, but it may be helpful.
New screen no touch response. Have repaired many, many phones over the years, and this is a first. Checked cables, reinstalled broken screen. Broken still works aside from the area most cracked, but new screen, only home button from old screen works, though it does turn on. Just no response on touch screen. Maybe the above-mentioned hard reset, or just a defective part? I know I can depend on the ifixit parts, but this was replacement screen was bought by the friend of the phone owner, off amazon…
When using packing tape: the suction won’t hold well with the overlapping pieces, so add a square of tape where you want to put the suction cup, so it will provide an unbroken surface for the seal.
To keep track of screws, draw a quick outline of the display cable bracket/cover, with five dots where screws should be. Drop the screws on the corresponding dot. Helps if you use magnet pad.
must use original button

use one pry tool to hold down, another to pull up.

be sure battery is disconnected before reassembling the display —in case you reconnected it to position battery
an old iPhone box and a rubber band lightly around the display works great to hold it at 90
Gently: this piece is attached to the plastic cabling, not the surface of the phone
Do you know whether the adhesive contributes to waterproofing, or just for stability/adhesion?
Yes to this. Listen for that satisfying click…
