Once an iPhone is fixed by someone other then Apple, you automatically void any existing warranties from Apple. Now, Apple will most likely fix it as an out of warranty product, which will be a crazy price for the 6. My guess is that the proximity sensor flex cable is a dud and needs to be replaced. I have had a computer do this exact thing to me as well. Normally, the fix is to replace the "Upper Case", which is essentially the whole keyboard and housing. If that doesn't work, then try replacing the DC power adapter. Those fixes work most of the time; it depends how much liquid got into the computer and what type of liquid.

I do not believe that you can switch the screens across the different models. By doing that repair, you could possibly be compromising the integrity of the water-resistance of the watch. It definitely would be interesting if it was possible. In regards to the screens being available, they shouldn't be available form iFixit for at least another month. I am sure, though, that they are working as fast as they can to get the products to market for purchase. Hope this answers your questions.

It is not necessarily mandatory for you to back up iPhones before repairs, but it is highly recommended. There can be issues that occur during a repair that cause the phone to not turn on or not accept iTunes that would make getting the information off the iPhone impossible. I would recommend purchasing the iPhone 4 battery because that is supposedly the model of the unit. The difference between the iPhone 4 and the iPhone 4S is that the battery connector to the logic board was changed from the right side of the battery to the left side of the battery, respectively so you will notice rather quickly whether or not you have the right battery.
