  • Remove four corner screws located on the underbelly of the unit using the Nintendo Gamecube bit tool.

  • Depress clips and remove back panel as shown.

  • Carefully unclip controller ports in the front of the unit.

  • Ribbon Cable (in yellow) is still attached to the unit. Do not try to disconnect this cable.

  • Unscrew the two screws holding the fan assembly onto the unit using a Philips #2 screwdriver as shown.

  • Carefully remove the red and black wiring assembly from the fan unit by gently pulling the fan connector away from the fan as shown.

  • Remove four screws using a Philips #1 screwdriver as shown.

  • Carefully remove metal plates as shown in second photograph

  • Starting with the three screws located under the fan assembly, unscrew a total of twelve screws on the outer edge of the unit using a Phillips #2 screwdriver.

  • Carefully lift drive assembly off of the base.

  • Flip drive assembly over and remove 8 screws as shown.

  • Remove metal plate, careful to not disturb the brown wire (shown in yellow)

There's actually only 6 screws to remove-- two of the circled objects are placement pegs.

  • Gently slide out black clip holding the brown ribbon in place. Then slide out brown ribbon as shown.

  • Carefully remove blue wire

  • Remove four screws with a #1 Phillips Screwdriver

  • Flip out circuit board as shown, being careful not to sever the red wire or the white ribbon cable (shown in yellow boxes)

  • Using a flat-head screwdriver or other long flat object, carefully release the four plastic clips holding the drive assembly together.

  • The last clip can be rather hard to find. Use a screwdriver as shown in the third image to get behind the plastic to release the last clip (in blue).

  • Lift metal plate off of drive assembly, again being careful not to sever the two wires still attached to the two halves of the drive assembly.

  • Next, flip and rotate the drive assembly so that it resembles the one in the third picture.

  • Using the screwdriver, release two more clips around the back half of the drive assembly.

  • The last clip doesn't need to be released, the top half of the drive assembly will slide away from the lower half.

  • Finish removing the top half of the drive assembly, be careful as this piece is where the two wires that should not be removed are attached to (unless you want to do some soldering).

  • Remove three final screws near the bars of the lens assembly. Once this is done the lens assembly can be removed.

  • Shown in the first picture is the lens assembly. In the second, the drive assembly without the lens assembly.

  • Congratulations, you're done!
