Laptop Screen is Frozen
Laptop will not respond to mousepad or keyboard activity.
Too Many Programs Running
Often times a computer will freeze if you have too many programs running at once. Try closing a few unneeded programs and giving your computer a few minutes to load.
Computer is Overheated
An overheated computer is a common cause for crashes. There may be programs or tasks running that are using too many system resources. A simple restart should give your system the rest it needs.
To restart your computer, navigate to the start tab. From there, click on the power icon. Select ‘Restart’ and allow your computer to turn off and boot back up. If your computer doesn’t respond, try closing your laptop and following the earlier instructions from the start screen.
To prevent an overheating problem in the future, make sure your computer is receiving sufficient cooling. Keep your laptop on a hard, flat surface and make sure the vents of your computer are clean.
Camera Will Not Turn On
The camera will not turn on.
Privacy Switch is Turned Off/App Is Not Allowed to Access Camera
On Windows, you can decide whether or not you want to access the camera and which apps have permission to access your camera. If your webcam is turned off, you may need to turn it back on.
First navigate to your settings. In the search bar, search “Camera” and click on “Camera Privacy Settings”. This page in your settings allows you to turn your camera on and decide which apps can access your camera.
Keyboard Not Responding
Keyboard does not respond when buttons are pressed.
Corrupted Keyboard Driver
The first thing you can try to do when your keyboard isn’t responding is reinstall the keyboard driver. You may need to enable the on-screen keyboard or attach an external one to do this.
Right click on he start menu and select “Device Manager”. In device manager, click and expand the keyboard tab.
Right click the “standard PS/2 keyboard” tab and select “uninstall”. After you uninstall the keyboard, restart your device. After the restart is complete, sign in using the on-screen or external keyboard to sign in and the original keyboard should work.
Outdated Touchpad Driver
Visit this link and download the latest driver that matches HP Elitebook 840 G7. Go through the prompt to install. Once it’s complete, your keyboard should work.
Wi-Fi Will Not Connect
Wi-Fi will not connect when adding a new network.
Airplane Mode Is On
If your Wi-Fi will not connect the first thing you can check is if airplane mode is enabled on your computer. If it isn’t proceed to the next possible problem and solution. If it is then you can turn if off by navigating to the “Network & Internet” section in settings. On the left-hand side you will see airplane mode, click on that and turn off airplane mode.
Router Not On
Another reason why your internet may not be connecting could be because your router is not on. Check and make sure it is plugged in and turned on. If your router is on you will see a green light.
Wireless Driver out of Date
If none of the above possible solutions work for you, you can try updating your wireless driver. Right click on the windows start symbol. A window should pop up and from there select device manager. Double click on “Network Adapters” and select the driver with “Wi-Fi/Wireless” in the name. A window will pop up and from there select the driver tab on top of the window. Select update driver and let your computer search automatically for drivers. Click install and your computer should restart.
Audio Will Not Play
Audio will not play when laptop speaker is on and turned up.
Computer Software Error
Audio issues can usually be an easy fix since there are many configurations that go into sound. To get an accurate diagnostic for your computer’s issue, visit support.hp.com and click Use diagnostic tools to find and fix issue. Navigate to the middle of the page and select the computer issues tab, then select sound issue.
Finally select the recommended audio check tab by clicking Launch Now. The prompt will run a scan of your setting and either display an issue or direct you to a more advanced troubleshooting page.
Outdated Audio Driver
Another common solution stems from the audio driver being out of date. In this step we will update it. Right click on the windows button at the bottom left side of your screen and select computer management. Look under the system tools dropdown and select device manager.
Scroll down and select the Sound, video, and game controllers. From the drop down , Right click “RealTek high definition audio” and select “update driver”. The update prompt will ask you how you want to search for a driver, select search automatically. Follow the prompt and your audio driver should be updated.

I actually by mistakenly increased the no. Of processors to max and then restarted after some mins I reset it to one now my pc takes very much time to open and whenever I plugs in charger while screen on it doesn't respond to anything. Pls suggest me something ather than restting it
