If there are no lights, fan, or screen activity when pressing the power button and no response, even when plugged into the adapter cable, follow this troubleshooting guide for possible solutions.
Static or Residual Power Buildup
- Perform a hard reset
- Disconnect the battery and AC power.
- Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds.
- Reconnect the power adapter and try turning it on.
Faulty Power Adapter
- Check the power adapter
- Check and confirm that the power adapter delivers 20V DC using a multimeter or another working power adapter.
Defective Battery Preventing Startup
- Boot on Thinkpad L460 without the battery
- Remove the battery, plug in the adapter only, and power on.
- If the Thinkpad L460 starts, the battery most likely needs replacement. Follow this guide to replace the battery.
Loose RAM or Storage Connections
- Reseat the components
- Open the bottom cover of the Thinkpad L460.
- Remove and reinstall the RAM and SSD/HDD.
Faulty Power Button or Cable
- Inspect the power button cable
- Check and ensure the ribbon cable is properly connected to the motherboard.
Motherboard Failure
