Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 8.0 Wi-Fi Troubleshooting
The Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 8.0 Wi-Fi model, also known as the SM-T330, was released on April 1, 2014. To potentially avoid the hassle of taking apart your device and having to dish out the money, refer to this troubleshooting page.
Tablet will not turn on
Your tablet does not seem to turn on.
Plug your device in to see if the screen lights up. If it does, let it charge. If not, leave the device plugged in for two hours and check again.
Some third-party chargers may not be compatible with this device, although they may fit properly. If you are not using the stock charger, try switching back to the charger that came with your device. If you do not see a light towards the top of the screen, you may need to purchase a new charger.
If your display does not show an image, but the tablet is making noise, you may have a faulty display. First, try soft-resetting your device by holding down the power button for ten seconds, releasing it, and then holding it down for another five. If this does not fix the problem, your screen may need to be replaced.
If your device does not charge and the above steps have not allowed you to turn your tablet back on, you may need to replace your battery.
Charging port is broken
If the above steps do not alleviate the issue, and you are certain that your charging cable is not defective, your charging port may be broken, in which case you may need to replace your motherboard.
Tablet has slow performance
Your tablet is responding slowly.
Too many open applications
If you have too many applications running simultaneously, your device may run slowly. To close the unnecessary applications, hit the multitasking button (left of the home button) and manually swipe all applications to the left or right to close them.
Power saving mode is turned on
The reason that your tablet is running slowly may be because power saving mode is enabled. To check if this is the case, go to settings and search for power saving mode. Turning it off should increase performance.
Software out of date
Go to settings and search for Update. If there are updates available, installing them should increase performance.
Recently downloaded app causing bad performance
Enabling safe mode will prevent apps from running automatically. To turn on safe mode, hold the power button for ten seconds when the device is off, and release the button when the Samsung logo appears on the screen. Press the volume down button until the safe mode icon appears in the bottom left of the screen. This prevents crashes and bad performance related to apps. Once in safe mode, if performance is improved, go to the Google Play store and delete any recently installed apps.
Tablet charges slowly
Your tablet is not charging as fast as it has previously
The cable for your tablet may have been damaged with use over time. It could be that the charging cable needs to be replaced.
The micro USB charging port on the tablet is a part of the motherboard. If the tablet is charging too slowly, the motherboard may be at fault, in which case, it would need to be replaced.
Home/Lock/Volume buttons aren't working
After pressing the home, lock, and/or volume buttons, they don't respond
Buttons are stuck
The problem could just be that the buttons are stuck. To check, press the buttons to see if they give tactile feedback. If not they do not, then forcefully tap the area around the buttons to try and get them unstuck.
After extended use, the tablet will start to build-up dirt and grime. To fix this, you will need to take apart the tablet to clean out the button ports.
Buttons are not working
If you have tried these solutions and the buttons are still not working, then you may need to replace them altogether.
Display is damaged or does not function properly
Screen is artifacting or does not display
Not enough memory
If your screen is unresponsive, it may be because you do not have enough memory, in which case, you should perform a soft reset by holding down the power button for ten seconds.
Corrupt memory card
Some of your recently downloaded apps may have corrupted the memory card, causing artifacting on the screen. All you would need to do to solve this, would be to remove the memory card and purchase a new one.
If there are portions of the screen that do not display, but the screen overall is functional, you probably have dead pixels. These are simply areas of the screen which do not display anything because they have been damaged. In order to remedy this, you will need to go through a full screen replacement.
