A friend of mine has a 12GB model of this device and I understand that this does not contain a hard drive. How do I add an internal hard drive so that I can increase the memory?

We don't have a guide, but our teardown shows you where the hard drive bay is. Any 2.5" laptop hard drive should plug-and-play just fine.

Hi Alex. You or your friend must buy HDD bracket. This operation is easy and will not cancel warranty. All necessary screws and instructions will be in the package. PS3 also can work with 1Tb HDD. Package looks like this: http://community.us.playstation.com/t5/i...

no you need a double HDD bracket or a 20 HDD bracket.

No1 liked Sony's idea creating a ps3 with flash memory (12gb) You can use and external hard drive but it will cost u money so...
I recommend u too use the cheapest bracket which is the 40gb i think . It's good for storing game file directories but not meant for huge games but still worth it .Dont worry if u have a low hdd on ur ps3. Other method is: Instead of bracket, u can use an 2.5 inch SATA drive, mostly found on pc or laptops,they vary accrording to their RPM. 5400 rpm is enough for ps3. For further help, use youtube

As i said , you don't have to use SATA everytime u want to upgrade your hdd. U can use their memory drive and if it doesnt fit te ps3 hdd place , u have to use a kind of credit card(expired) or smth like that.i used my old pc storage and succeeded. Good luck!

Can use any 2.5" sata hdd also you need a hdd slim cage... find both on ebay!
Or you can use a bit of card top and bottom to hold the hdd in place. You must secure the drive so it cant move about.
Otherwise the hdd kind of floats held only by the sata port... not recommended as a slightest move of the ps3 can dislodge it!

A HDD 40 gb hard drive or disc is still not what you need you need a 20 gb hard drive or a new HDD but a new HDD is more money

I got a 160GB hard drive for 20 dollars so now I'll have 172 GB so altogether I put 85 dollars into my PS3 not bad and the games are cheap too there is a lot u can't play on the PS4 without streaming them for a

Yes, the hard disk drives are the same both on the PS3 and PS4. Also, the 2.5" SSD can be installed. But for real, there is very small difference in the game loading.

Sorry, but the 12GB has nothing to do with the ram memory. You have 2 different type of models out there. The 12GB onboard flash storage memory model and the 500GB HDD one.
So, as already is mentioned above, you can upgrade the 12GB flash storage model with a HDD, but you need the HDD bracket that is suitable for the PS3 Super Slim. Whenever you decided to buy that, you can put in every 2,5 inch HDD/SSD you want and upgrade the storage.
Whenever, you have bought the 500GB one, you will not have the onboard flash storage memory and you can either upgrade/replace the HDD.
