bob, it could most certainly be a leaking heater core, but that would mean you should have antifreeze in the passenger compartment (most of the times). Remember you may not have any heat due to loss of coolant. You may not have any heat because of low antifreeze, or a bad thermostat etc. I would check for leaks while letting the engine run in the driveway. Check for any obvious leaks on the hoses, radiator and the water pump.
