Whilst removing the battery I pierced the foil with the spudger, can I still use the battery and can I repair this with anything.

Mike, I most certainly would not. If the battery's outer case is punctured, the lithium inside is highly volatile and can react violently with water, which includes humidity in the air. I would discard it properly and get a new battery
