Half my screen is covered with colored lines. Can I fix this?

Block Image

The screen is covered on one side by colored lines. If I accurately guess where input buttons are I can still navigate via touch screen so that is still working. I just cannot see the entire desktop because of the colored lines. The system was not dropped or jarred in any way...just turned it on and half the desktop is gone. Can I repair this myself or should I take it somewhere? (I am an IT guy) If I need to take it somewhere, where can I find a list of service centers? If I can fix it myself, I would love some advice.

Regards,

Mike

Any chance you can post an image of what your screen looks like? Right now, based on your brief description, it sounds like a bad LCD. Follow this guide Ajout d'images à une nouvelle question to post an image with your question.

I will try to post an image later this afternoon...I am at work now and cannot bring in the device.

Could it be the "touch screen" part of the LCD? The reason I say this is that the full desktop is underneath the colored lines. If I rotate the device, the other section of the desktop is revealed and you can see it "rotate". Also, if there is an input button covered by the colored lines, I can press on the screen where the button should be and it will activate the button as if I could see it.....so that part is working.

Like I said, I will try and post a pic later this afternoon.

I think I know what you are saying, but it could not be your digitizer since it still fully functions. I guess once we can see what you see we might have am answer for you.

Mike Eller, if you rotate your screen you see the rest of the desktop, but the lines remain in the same area?

Mike Eller, color problems usually indicate that the power supply, inverter board and the backlights are working fine and the real cause is either in the main board, loose cable (wire or flex cable),or a controller board (LCD panel) problem. The color and brightness of yours looks fine, the desktop is visual when rotated and the lines remain in the same area. The way I would go about it is to first check the cable (doubtful but hoping) if that does not accomplish anything, replace the LCD. check here and on here for some decent videos for the task. Here isthe teardown, not a guide, but it will give you a pretty good idea of what needs to be done. The display is a bit hard to find but there are places like this that have those. Also check for GT-N8000 when you search for the display. Hope this helps, good luck

So there will be no indicators that the LCD needs replacing...if the cable connections are good just assume the LCD is bad and replace it?

par

That is correct. If anything else is working, and looking at your display, it will be your LCD that needs replacing.

I dropped my tablet(forgot the model) and i just see these pink lines and kinda like code i think i messed up my circuit board unsure but sometimes it functions normally and other days it's glitching and sometimes wont turn on somebody help

@bvlckxculture you'll need at least try to find the make and model. From your description it sound s like a bad display or tore cables.

Depending on the issue. It could be dead pixels. Try to take a warm cloth and gently press on the areas that are having the issues. It may be a firmware issue as well, I have posted a link to a youtube video to help you with it (if its what it is)

I would also say it could be an internal problem, where the wires are a little loose. If you have the proper tools and it will not mess with your warranty, I would take it apart and check the connections.

If none of these work. Try taking it in to get repaired. But Id guarantee its one of these.

This is most likely a loose LCD cable.

Open the back (first pop off gray plastic, then unscrew three screws, then pop of the white plastic). Verify that the white markings on the LCD cable aligns with the white line on both connectors. If not, fix it. Check screen. Reassemble.

I have done this twice recently as my kids drop the pad and this happens. Also it doesn´t hurt to secure the cable with tape.
