Need help identifying a R005 component on logic board

i have a MacBook Pro a1278. When I opened it I noticed that there was a corroded green colored chip (R005) on the logic board near the display cable, and was wondering if anyone could help me identify it, so i could buy and replace it.

After reading the info given here:

Need help identifying a component on logic board

I guess it is called as sense resistor, but don't know from where it can be purchased and can it be soldered?

Shivkumar, that is reference designator R5400. It is a 0612 MF 1W 0.005 resistor. It is part of the High Side Current Sense / Filter circuit. Comparable resistors are available at places like this. Hope this helps, good luck.

Thanks a lot oldturkey03.

Please enlighten me if this can be used for what Mac Book Pro is using. I saw different versions (1W, 2W and 3W) of the same resistor. How could I know which one is correct for my Mac Book Pro i7 2.7Ghz Early 2011 model. Shall I go and directly replace it.

Please confirm if the resistor mentioned on this link http://in.element14.com/susumu/prl1632-r...

is same as what you have suggested.

Please help me. I have seen your last reply. You are the one who could give satisfactory answer. Perhaps you are the only person who knows the answer.

Also, please let me know what is the difference between these part numbers even though all characteristics of both are same.

1) PRL1632-R005-F-T1

Versus

2) PRL1632-R005-F-T5

Shivkumar, thank you for accepting my answer. First, the difference between the -T1 and the -T5 is the "Taping Quantity Unit:PRL:T1(1000pcs) T5(5000pcs). It does not identify any issues on the resistor, but the quantity of the "tape" that you can buy, both are the same individually. Second, I would stick with the same power wattage as the original, which is 1 Watt. I do believe that the Apple engineers are a pretty smart bunch, so IO would go with what they originally used.Lastly, yes it does look like the Susumu resistor has all the proper values. The values for this resistor are right from the schematic and parts list for your particular model.Hope this helps, good luck.

Hi oldturkey03, it would be of great help if could tell me is it possible to measure specifications from an existing logic board. For instance, we have same model of Mac Book Pro and we want to find out whether its R005 resistor is of 1W, then is it possible?

Shivkuma, the easiest way to do the that, is to measure the physical dimension. Take the datasheet from here http://www.susumu-usa.com/pdf/PRL_RL_Dat... and you will see when you compare the data on page 1, that the PRL1632 is smaller than the next 2W resistor.
