Why is my Dryer blowing cold air?

I have a electric dryer (breaker fed with dual pole breaker) that is not getting hot anymore, I've cleaned the dryer vent (it was not bad), I've changed the settings from Auto to Manual and still get same result. Cold Air. The dryer is 10 years old, is it possible the element is gone?? Can I fix it myself? Barry

Barry Farstad, make sure that both your fuses are engaged. The dryer will need 220V to work, so check the heater voltage, and check the wire connections to the heater. Yes, it is possible that it is the heating element. This may help you a bit more.

The thermal cutoff is a non-resettable device. The cutoff temperature is 178°C (352°F).

If the dryer does not heat and there is 240 VAC to the dryer, perform the following test.

1. Disconnect the electrical power to the dryer.

2. Set the ohmmeter to the R X 1 scale.

3. Disconnect the wires from the thermal cutoff.

4. Touch the ohmmeter test leads to the thermal cutoff terminals. The ohmmeter should indicate continuity (0 Ω). If the meter indicates an open circuit (infinite), replace both the thermal cutoff and the high-limit thermostat.

In addition, check for a failed heater element, or a blocked, or improper exhaust system.

HEATER

1. Disconnect the electrical power to the dryer.

2. Set the ohmmeter to the R X 1 scale.

3. Disconnect one of the wire connectors from the heater terminal block.

4. Touch the ohmmeter test leads to the terminals on the heater terminal block. The ohmmeter should indicate between 7 and 12 ohms.

Hope this helps, good luck.
