What is that small button battery by the earpiece?

I took apart the LCD screen and saw a button battery next to the earpiece. Do I need to replace the battery? The phone is 7 years old so the battery must be low.

Yes, that is the RTC battery. Since you already have your phone open, I would most certainly replace it as well.
