Short Circuit when plugging into PC

Hi all, just wondering if anyone has a fix or has had this issue before....

I purchased an iPhone 4s which was faulty to repair, this was the fault description:

"Hi this was my iphone 4s 64gb I cracked the screen phone still worked fine.So I bought a new chrome screen and back and new battery for it and tried to install it myself in the process I broke the power button ribbon and replaced it with a new one put the phone back together and now it wont charge or connect to iTunes"

I thought no worries, it's probably been put back together incorrectly. It arrived and I plugged it into my Laptop, and as soon as I did my laptop powered off. The only thing I can think of that would do this would be a short circuit, to have an error that quickly and just power straight off.

I had another dock connector which was used, and I tried swapping that thinking maybe there was a problem with it, but the same error occurred. This tells me the issue isn't the connector. I'm guessing it's the battery/battery connector/ground?

Has anyone had this error before or can anyone give me a hand with this one?
