My iPod does not detect scroll wheel or button.

About a year ago, the device was left on a table and sometime in the night, water was spilled and the nano was left overnight surrounded by it, but only a thin layer. After that, the iPod stopped turning on. A few minutes ago, I tried to see if it would work, so I plugged it in and it turns on, but the scroll wheel will not function, nor the middle button.

Also, this is probably something else but, the nano seems to shutdown after being unplugged.

I would be happy to know if it can still be salvaged or not.

Thanks!

since the water spill was so long ago and the iPod has had plenty of time to dry out, I would guess that there's been some internal damage or corrosion. I think the next step would be to try opening up the iPod and see if there's any visible damage - you may need to replace the click wheel.

shutting down after unplugging is probably just a sign of a dead battery.

The nice thing about the Nanos is that they are are very small. The less nice thing about them is that many of their parts are integrated into the logic board.

Having that said, try replacing the click wheel. If this doesn't solve your problem, all signs point to the logic board.

put your ipod on some warmer place like the radiator(around 50 to 60 degree C). The click wheel of my Ipod did not work after it touched with a little bit of water, I fixed it like that.
