Relationship between AGP Processor and mother board processor

I have an old version of a home PC...which uses an Intel 600Mhz processor on a pentium III motherboard.

I have also added a graphics Creative Savage 3D savage 4 on the AGP slot..things are quite normal as they have been for the past almost ten years. The AGP card uses a pentium 2 processor on its board.

I would like to know if i can chnage my AGP card to the newer versions, like NVidia, which can handle graphics processor speeds of more than 1 Ghz, which is higher than my main CPU speed .

I never tried it, but i think your old pIII have a agp x4 port, that would be ok for "newer" graphic cards with something like a NVIDIA GeForce 7600GT.

System Requirements for the card above are like this:

* Intel Pentium III, AMD Duron or Athlon class processor or higher

  • 256MB system RAM
  • A minimum 350W / 400W recommended power supply
  • PC with one free 4x or 8x AGP graphics slot available on the motherboard with full size expension slot
  • 50MB of available hard disk space
  • CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive to load the driver or download it online.
  • DVI or VGA compatible monitor
  • Support for Windows 2000/XP/Vista/Windows 7 or above system

so check whats inside your computer and if you want a specific card - check if there are drivers for your operating system available

I don't see any reason why not, but I wouldn't really spend too much on it. AGP is an old standard, so you won't be able to put it in a more modern PC later.

The P3 should support most cards, but try to get one that doesn't need a 6pin power connector. I wouldn't worry too much about the power supply, although yes, everyone will fuss over it :P
