Swap CPU from 2002 > 2001; will my Heat Sink fit?

Have Dual 800 MHz cpu again in my Quicksilver 2001. Aftermarket replacement cpu failed. Can I install a Dual 1.0 GHz unit from a 2002 Quicksilver into my machine?

Will the heat sink from my dual 800mhz cpu work?

Where can I find a heat sink for the dual 1.0 GHz cpu if I need one?

Understand that I will need some thermal grease.

No you MUST get the dual 1.0 GHz heat sink with the dual 1.0 GHz processor card, and get the fan unit as well. Although the form factor of the processor card is the same, and the bottom side is the same, the placement of the PPC chip or PPC chips are different, so the top side is quite different.

A single processor heat sink has the provision for one centrally located processor.

A dual processor heat sink has the provision for two offset processors.

The heat sink mount is the same.

A single processor heat sink will not cover the two processors on a dual processor

Thank you machead3. I was not aware that the Apple dual 1.0 GHz daughter card had a different fan unit as well as a different heat sink from the 800 MHz dual cpu that is in my Quicksilver 2001.

Anybody have a picture they can send me?

Stephen
