Recently my laptop has stopped playing CDs or DVDs that I insert into the cd drive and auto play isn't working either. When I looked in My Computer I can no longer see CD-RW drive, what happened?

If it's missing from the computer, either the drivers or missing or there is a loose/lack of connection between the device and the computer. You could try reinstalling drivers from the toshiba site for the dvd drive; however, if that doesn't work, verify that the drive has been properly inserted into the laptop and secured via it's screw.

This started happening after I installed Win 10. In order to play a DVD -- I had to download another driver called Windows DVD Player. But now I'm having issues trying to play a simple CD.

You need to go into Device Manager and remove cd/dvd drive from the list of hardware. Restart system and go back into Device Manager and click on Scan for Hardware Changes. Cd drive should appear. Install driver from manufacturers website... usually found under the support or downloads page. If that doesn’t work then it’s either a faulty cable, bad board, or dirty/faulty lens or “Laser”.
As far as music or video not playing, you need to download the windows media player codec package or the VLC package. Do NOT install those fake malware drivers like the one mentioned above. Most of those are full of adware, trackers, and auto downloaders.

Agree with Eric maybe remove screw pull drive and put back in see if that works. If still doesn't work if you have a different laptop even one that doesn't power on try to remove the DVD drive from that laptop if the connector is the same on back of drive as your laptop you can Frankenstein to work with yours by swapping brackets on back of drive then you can usually swapp the front bezel of DVDs drive so it works with your laptop. There should be I tiny hole on front of drive put paper clip in there it will pop out drive then there are usually a couple clips that hold it on just be careful and pop off and swap them. If works your done if not then may have driver issue try deleting and reinstalling drivers may work if not check to see if random virus causing issue (malwarebytes and super antispyware) if not then lastly reinstall os if still bad then bad logic board connection.

I have this problem it started after i downloaded windows 10 home But my friend have windows 10 pro and it worked on him the cd is civilization 5 and the game worked on his laptop but on my lap didn't read the cd but if put another cd he will gonna be readen normally
