Is rebuilding the charging port needed?

The charging port is not visibly damaged, however the red light indicating that it is charging does not come on.

The phone gets warm as if it were charging for a while, but it won't turn on.

Whats the easiest way to fix this?

Options

first make sure it's not the charging cable that's not faulty if it's ok I would start with replacing the port
