Dunk in washing machine

After 10 mins then I realized phone was in washing machine, took it out, and out of my stupidity, I tried to turn it on -_- The screen flashes once, then died.

Shorted? Mother board?

Then I dip into pack of rice, 8 hours later, tried to boot, but to no avail, remove back cover, remove screws, and battery. There's water inside, dried it up everything nicely, then dip into rice again. Hopefully it'll work.

Question - Possible to restore or recover the data inside? I didn't use auto sync function. I need my whatsapp data log as well.

Maybe we can take out the memory (card?) and bring to shop to insert to new device or something like that? I'm desperately in need of those data asap.

I'm currently using my secondary phone and refuse to connect my whatsapp to it.

Fish your situation is not good, if the data is very important, I would recommend getting professional help from a reliable shop that has good reviews.

Right now with the device being damaged, it will be almost impossible to retrieve the data, if a shop can get it working, even if its just a little, they can help you get the data.

This device has a internal memory that cannot be removed, so no on the SD removal.

The longer it sits, the worse the water damage gets. water+metal=corrosion.

By the way rice does not really work, not sure how that became popular...

Good luck Mate!

Cheers!

Good day Josh!

Surprisingly, my phone booted up. Done my backups and everything is fine.

Just that speaker and headphone jack doesn't work anymore. But good thing is I've retrieve all my datas :)

Rice do work, it absorbs the waters and little moisture inside the phone. But some people suggest silica gel, which is another good alternative.

Nevertheless, I've got my data back. Thanks for your reply tho!

My Nexus 5 was in the wash for about 5-10 mins before I realized my mistake. I immediately fished it out and disassembled it down to removing the battery and motherboard, in the next 5 mins (It had a half-decent silicone rubber case but that helped very little.) I dried everything and waited 1 day before trying it.

The agitation caused water to get between the layers of the LCD display and that was visible when I tried to power it on. I followed instructions to separate the layers of the LCD backlight and dry them, until i accidentally used the wrong solvent (hydrogren peroxide is the wrong one, the correct solvent is alcohol) and removed some silvering on one of the layers:

A new LCD display costs $30 on ebay and I installed one, but the phone still does not work, the backlight comes on but there is no information displayed on the front panel.
