replaced front display and home button does not work
I ordered the replacement part from Ifixit. they sent me another part and the home button does not work on that part either

If I get it right, you ordered a screen assembly with the home button already attached. You replaced the screen and the home button did not work, nor did the new replacement one?
If yes, we need to see if the home button itself in defective, or the "home button function:"
- Lift the screen assembly while the iPhone is ON.
On the bottom left corner of the iPhone, you can see the headphones jack, and next to it 2 gold prongs pointing up. They are meant to make contact (and continuity) with the home button ribbon cable when the screen falls back in place.
- If you can see those 2 gold prongs, they are not missing/broken, etc., short them together using a flat screw driver. See if the phone reacts. If yes, the "home button function" is intact, and your home button ribbon cable is defective. Use the home button flex cable that was on the original screen, and follow this guide.
- If the iPhone does not react when you short the 2 prongs together, OR you cannot see them as they are damaged/missing in any way, let us know to guide you through additional trouble shooting steps.

Thanks Randy. I did short the two prongs and the phone did react. I replace the ribbon cable for the home button but it still did not work.
Is there any other cause you can think of fro it not working. I do appreciate you answering my first question.
Here's the "simplified" circuit of the home button:
Level 1: home button flat cable,
Level 2: prongs, touching together makes home function work!
Level 3: lightning assembly,
Level 4: components on the board next to battery and lightning connector, Etc.
Home button function is supposedly working until the prongs level, since phone reacts when you touch them together. After that, home button flat cable is not working despite replacing it twice. Issue should be at level 1:
A/ Either both flat cables are defective and believe me it does happen. Try transferring the home button flex cable from the original screen if you still have it: 1st heat it slightly with hot air to loosen the glue.
B/ OR the prongs are not touching the home button flex *when the screen is fitted back in place* (Remember to test home button with screen fitted back) => the prongs may need to be slightly and gently bent up to make contact. Don't break them. OR even better, take a picture of them and upload it here with your original question.
shorted to prongs and it did not worl , what is next step
I have the same problem and I tested with flat screw driver phone reacted. then I tried to work with the prong and it broke. How do I fix it can I replace just the prong or what part ?
