If you try to install an external sd card on your tablet is turned on, you will have to go to Settings / storage and mount it.

Generally this is not recommended. Installing a formatted external sd card is the recommended method because the tablet will scan for memory when it powers up and automatically mount the external SD card.

If you unplug an external sd card from your tablet that has been mounted without first dismounting it, or powering down the tablet, here's a high probability that you will corrupt the file table on that card that have to reformat or repair it using a PC.

First try rebooting your device, if sd card still doesn't show, pull it out and make sure it's going in the right way. It supposed to click into slot, otherwise you'd have to force it in, and it won't work.

If it still doesn't show signs of life - pull it out, check the card slot on device with a light - make sure there are no signs of damage. If applicable - check sd card with another device to make sure card itself works.

Refer to Troubleshooting Page for more solutions. Check out the disassemble guide to take the tablet apart and see if any damage not visible through the slot hole.

I use an SD card I bought to save photos from my phone and then to upload them to tablet for back up storage. The card always been read by my tablet until recently. Each time I insert it, now it doesn't get read except briefly and then acts as if the card isn't in. I tried it on my mobile again and it was read on there without a problem.

Also when I ejected the card from its slot,it shot right out into the air and I had to catch it.

Could this be more likely case of damage inside the card slot itself?

I have a similar problem... I have music on my SD card but none of my music players recognize the music, so they say there's no music on the device. I don't know how to get the players to read the SD card.

I had the same problem. I formated my 32GB SD card with a formatting program on Windows several times. I even zeroed the card twice, but nothing helped. What I eventually had to do was stick the card in another Android device, format it, and then place it back in my table.
