Device will not power on after battery ran dry?

My HTC One M8 will not charge or power up. The phone ran out of charge one evening (first time I let it do so, previously I had always put it on the charger prior to complete battery drain). I hooked it to the charger and the red "charging" LED would not turn on. I've tried several different chargers and power outlets, the phone is four months old, it's never been dropped nor has it ever been wet. I do not know if it is charging, as I have not been able to get it to power on since. The only odd thing I've noticed (besides it not functioning) is that when I plug the charger cable into the phone, an amber LED will light for a few brief seconds. I have tried a soft reset and I've also tried the steps for battery recalibration.

I use the charger that I got with the phone and since this morning it is not switching on and the led blinks It was around 48% when I left it for charging. can anyone help??

Can help help me trying to figure out how to get my HTC desire 310 working...I replaced the digitizer and lcd screen got a new battery but it just doesn't come on...when I connect the charging cable it only displays the battery charging symbol...after unplugging it and trying to switch it on...it dead as ever...I rechecked all the points on the main board...but can't fig out what's wrong?? Need help with detail help...do I have to instal any software??

My HTC One M8 just doesnt switch back on after I tried to restart it. Earlier, it was showing no network for some reason so I thought re-starting would hopefully fix the problem. But it never switched back on no matter what. Is it hard bricked? All it shows is the orange blinking LED while charging but there no light on the screen. Also, I was using a charger from a different phone. What can I do to fix this? Or is it beyond repair? I

Have you tried to reset the charging logic of the device, first you must charge your M8 for a minimum of 10 minutes using a wall charger. With the power off, press down and hold the volume up and down button with the power button for approximately 2 minutes. After 2 minutes, release all of the buttons. After the release the charging logic should be reset. Then charge your phone to 100% using your wall charger. If this doesn't work then its probably a failing battery or charge port.

I am curious what charger you have used to charge the battery. If you are using a generic charger or one that you had from a previous phone it may have caused damage to the battery or the charging IC on the motherboard. This is because the charger is sending the wrong voltage to charge the battery. If you were using the charger that htc recommends then the power IC should be fine, but the battery may still be the cause. If a Li-ion battery discharges to low it usually has a protective circuit built in that will put the battery in sleep mode when it drops below a certain voltage(I think around 2.8v-3v). When this happens the only way to get the battery out of that state it to give it a boost charge. Same idea as jumping a car battery. It needs a higher current for a short time to boost the battery above 3v then you can charge with a regular charger. Anywhere under 3.4v the phone won't power on but can still be charged without a boost if it doesn't go into protective mode. The protective mode keeps the battery from over voltage and under voltage. These batteries will discharge at faster rates if exposed to the wrong conditions. The battery may possibly be faulty and needs replaced.

Can you plug it into a PC and have the PC recognize the M8? Will it charge or light up the LED when connected to a PC's usb port? If not you should examine the M8 charge port for damage. The charge port may be damaged or dirty and preventing the phone from charging or being recognized by PC.

Hi MamaMajor, does the charging indicator LED come on when plugged into a charger? If it does what color is it and is it a constant or flashing light. If the LED is flashing orange then the battery is not communicating properly with the phone. A new battery would likely fix the issue. Does the LED flash red? Flashing red means the battery has a low charge. The battery may be failing and a new battery should fix the issue. If there is no charge indicator LED when plugged into a charger then you may need to replace the USB charge port. If a new battery or USB charge port don't fix the issue then you may have a issue on the motherboard. Hope this helps

hey my name is jordan, I was having charging problems with my HTC One M8. it for the lif of it couldnt keep a charge i thought it was my charger cable at first so i tried multiple chargers with the HTC wall adapter and still nothing. eventually my battery just kept draning even with it plugged in untill my phone started dying and i was having a difficult time trying to power it on. so i did some researching and found that if i held the {POWER BUTTON} And the {VOLUME DOWN BUTTON} For 2 Minutes (Yes i know that sounds ridiculous} and to my surprise it started charging again. supposedly doing so recalibrated my battery settings and wahlahhh FIXEDD! very happy hope this helps

Nice one m8, thx! Let me add that after roughly a minute phone was buzzing once, then I let go of the buttons. Finally a battery icon showed up, led changed to green, and everything back to normal. - HTC Desire 820 -

HTC support actually said you should hold all three buttons for 2 minutes for the HTC one M8, not one. I honestly do not know the difference, but it might be different depending on each phone. I was able to get my battery re-calibrated but it looks like the charging port has become loose or damaged and is incredibly annoying to charge for such a great phone.

Muy htc one m8 started failing after i picked at the earbud input due to the fact that no earbuds would be recognized,

It caused a bit of smoke to come out and a few sparks...

And after this happened it stiil worked bit the battery would drain instantely,

And after that, it wouldnt turn on anymore although it would charge and only would turno on at 100% battery

And recently its battery drained and it wont turn on,

Just about every 10 minutes while being plugged to a battery charger it shows onscreen the charging display and turns off again and when that happens there is only a red light.

Any advice

what if i was using a generic charger on my phone and it died while on the charger and now wont charge. its only been a few mins but even when i put it on the charger the led light doesnt show up likes its charging

READ THIS SOLUTION

if your phone is not charging and showing blinking orange light.

while your phone is off, hold down

power+volume up+ volume down

and while holding three buttons plug in your wallcharger and wait for 10seconds your phone will reboot let all buttons go and let it charge before playing with it.

will work 100% if done rite.

Does not work, I have an HTC one phone that I got about 3 months ago and I was in my room looking at Instagram then I pressed the power button

to put it into sleep mode, when I tried to awake it failed and shut down completely, I have tried all the combinations of buttons and the light sensor with the charger. I have also tried different chargers and it still will not turn on or buzz for reboot. I had plugged it in my PC and it made a sound ensuring that it was charging but no matter what the red light to indicate charging won't turn on. Please help I want to make sure there is no other way too bring it back to life before I bring it to a repair person.

I honestly thought this was all fake and I was gonna have to get a new phone... But to my surprise when I did it, my HTC one M8 sprung to life!! This is 100% real guys dont know how it works. THANK YOU SO MUCH !!

Ok. I tried everything with the phone plugged in and this is a new wall outlet charger (maybe 3 months old), no damage to the port or anything (i take care of my phones thanks to my ocd). Alright, with the phone plugged in, trying all of the combinations resulted in nothing. But while researching, I did see a post that said to have the phone unplugged, press the power button and volume up button at the same time, then plug it in....and voila! Now this is on an htc one m8 where the volume up/down button is only one and only gives you one option to push up or down, and the power button is at the top, not the side. This is the first time i let it get down to less than 5% before charging....think i accidentally left the camera on and set it down then fell asleep.

Double check the battery connector. I read somewhere that you should keep a finger on it as you're inserting and tightening the screws.

MADMAX46: YOU DESERVE A MEDAL!!.........................I have the same style HTC m8 (phone died completely, no led lights at all) , tried all the combinations as previous stated on this page with no luck, getting angry and losing my temper......:-( Came along to your method and tried the power & volume UP method and BINGO within seconds the phone sprang into action!!..................WELL DONE FELLA

Also thanks for all the comments on here as it looks as if these various methods have worked for the lucky few.

I had a peculiar version of this that I'll document for posterity.

Phone appeared to not be switching on - when charger plugged in - no light appeared.

However, when the power button is held down the home and back light buttons flash approx 12 times.

The surprising solution - which I found here HTC One won't turn on, flashing Home and Back buttons was to shine a very very bright light onto the phone. I was then able to unlock phone and fix the issue.

(I had set Nova Launcher to enable night mode during a certain time window)

hi what i thought you guys could do was take out your battery for 5 min. Don't mess around with your phone the after the 5 minutes are up plug your phone in and hold the power button and the volume button at the same time for 1 minute and 30 seconds if this does not work sorry ill research more.If it does work hoary

Hello i have the same problem with 1 m8 the problem was in the battery i have one for donnor first i tried that with volume and power button but nothing then i oppened the phone and i change the charging port and again nothing and then i changed the battery and the phone power on and start charging and everything worked perfect

Please, my HTC aid actually showing the orange light when charging but it is not coming on. I have tried holding the 3 buttons at the same time for 1 min but it only gave 2 vibrations during that 1 minute period. Please help, my name is Richard

Hello, my HTC flyer blinks orange light when connected to the wall socket and without the battery connected, but if I connect the battery and plug it into the wall socket, it stops blinking the light. Help!
