How much ram can I put in this Laptop?

Kyle Wiens seems to indicate in the August 2010 MacWorld that you can put 8 Gigs, but Other World Computing says 6Gigs (I just checked)- I have the 2.53 mhz that was the top of the line, the first Unibody with the removable door. I DO know they released a 2.8 mhz model that was capable of 8 Gigs.

The 2.53 MB471LL/A model will only take 4 GB of RAM: http://www.ramdirect.com/vcom/index.php?...

We really need to know the EXACT model you have. Please give us the last three letters of your serial number.

Officially the answer over are correct. And the late version supports up to 8Gb of RAM.

If it is the early version:

Unofficially you can but up to 6Gb in this model.

But as it is unofficial support it isn't always perfect. For instance, some models support up to 8Gb unofficially, but will start swapping before the last 2Gb is used. Therefor the effect of the last 2Gb is none. Read up on the thread posted under, and decide for yourselves what you want.

Read a bit more about it in this thread:

Read the first post and from page 4 or so and as much as you want.

Ok if you bought this one in late 08 than it is 4gb of ram. If you purchased this in mid 09 than it is the 8gb max. Since you said that this is the unibody model with the built in battery it would have to have been the mid 09 model so on yours I'm gonna say 8gb is your maximum amount of ram.

I have a 2.4 GHZ, late 2008 MBP 15 inch, officially it will take 4 GB max, but I installed an extra 4 GB module, so now i have 5, i have read that 6 is the 'unofficial' max RAM it will take.

5 GB works fine btw....
