brewing with k cup

I was letting a friend's son make himself a cup of coffee,and not knowing the correct way of brewing the lid was removed from the k cup pod,and then brewed. I was concerned why my keurig was not brewing a full cup,so I realized that this may be serious,so can you help me with what I need to do?
