home button - contact problem

The home button on my iPhone 5 was damaged - rotating and no function. So i replaced the home button with a new one.

But the new button doesn't function too. Nothing when i press the button. So i ordered another home button (perhaps the first was faulty), but the same again.

I've measured the home buttons - all three have 19kohm when pressed. I've checked the contacts and the alignment, everythings looks fine. But stil no function.

While putting the frontcover back, i've noticed that the homebutton works on the last milimeter until the frontcover is fully closed / pressed down.

When i lift up the frontcover just a little bit, the homebutton works. Fully assembled / closed, no function.

Again, the contacts to the homebutton and the alignment of the contacts plates on the homebutton flexcable seem to be ok.

Can someone give me a tip for this problem?

Thanks

Marcus

Hi Marcus,

It is possible the contacts on the charging port have become misaligned or damaged, replacing the charging port should solve your home button issues or you could try and reshape the contacts on the charging port. :-)

I had the same issue with my iPhone 4s a few years ago and i changed the charging port on the suggestion of an IT hardware specialist who i contacted about the issue. The result was as promised, and that is excellent.

Thanks for your reply!

Do you mean the contacts on the flex cable of the charging port to the main board or the contacts in the lightning port itself, where the lightning cable goes in?

Otherwise a new charging port is about 6€ and the assembly shouldn't be more comlicated than replacing the home button on an iPhone 4 or iPhone 5 (right?).

Thanks

Marcus

Easiest way to make the button functional without taking almost entire phone apart and spending alot of time and headache is to just turn on "Assistive controls" in settings. then you can have a "icon" on the screen to touch to use for all the external buttons if necessary.

Once icon is there, touch it, touch "device", then touch "lock screen" or hold "lock screen" to power off. Works just like the real button, just one small extra step.

Sorry, but I thought you were referring to the on/off button, but it works the same way for the home button.
