Why does my Cell phone work erratically?
My cell phone has been working erratically and the battery no longer keeps charge.

This is a battery issue for sure, usually when phone batteries can't keep charge they can get extremely hot charging and cause more damage to your phone! So do yourself a favor and replace the battery asap! Don't worry though, there are replacement guides here.
