Force it to recovery mode by holding power and home together with the device connected to computer until you see apple logo. Continue holding home button until device shows the connect to iTunes logo. iTunes will prompt to erase and restore as new

I have done the above but all I get is "iTunes could not connect to the iPad because it is locked with a passcode. You must enter your passcode on the iPad before it can be used with iTunes". Please someone help me x
