Anyone got ANY idea where this goes? I need to find its home to repair my drive. No images have helped me yet.

Yes...if you look at the top picture in the post above yours on the right side you will see there is a plastic part that juts out from the side about in the middle. You will see what looks like a plus...this is the bottom side of that gear (the side without the spring on it).
Incidentally you don't actually even need that screw. It's the manual eject screw and the drive will work just fine without it. It's good to have in case your disc gets jammed in there but you could do without it if needed.

It was causing disc read errors but is working great and got the info from a post you made almost two years ago, but again ty!!
Great to hear! I've added the photo with a circle around the part I was talking about just for anyone else that might have problems with this in the future.
thank you for posting this, but how do I hold the spring in place, it falls off
There should be no need to hold it in place. The black cover that goes over the laser holds it in place.

Guys if you looked I already thanked him from an older post. But thanks for all your info and II have my PS4 back up and running. Not bad for a total of $70 invested for a PS4 with a broken HDMI port.

I found this piece loose inside but the spring is missing. Will everything work without this piece installed?

Yes, it will work just fine. The thing to be worried about is where that spring went. If it's inside the disc drive somewhere it could cause it to malfunction.

It's the manual eject screw. On the side of the PS4

it wont work without the spring !!!! trust me because the spring ensures the gear teeth engage. without that the black bit useless
