• Tried Restart in Safe Mode. No joy.
• Tried Resetting PMU. No joy.
• Has a dead battery so, to date, have been operating on AC only
• Was in sleep mode before problem occurred

Three beeps = RAM problem
Reseat RAM first.

Right + It's worth noting that these machines suffered from bad RAM slots on the logicboard. Try both slots, swap everything around and try with a single RAM in either slots.
