What part in a phone picks up 3 and 4 g service

I've always had 4g, had to replace my screen now phone only picks up 3g, provider tells me its a device problem but happened outta no where to a diff phone, same model though maybe a month ago. Just so happens I'm eligible for upgrade. Any thoughts?
