Released in October 2003, the iBook G4 replaced the iBook G3 as Apple's portable consumer computer. The iBook G4 was sold in 12" and 14" models and updated for the last time in 2005.

What do I have to do to make my computer wireless

I can not get this computer to be comparable with my wireless. Please help me or tell me what I must do. Thank you

What I want to be able to do is use my lap top with out it being plug in

What do I have to do, as I am to learn this on my own . As I can not afford to have some one come here and help me. I was told that apple was good about helping when a person runs in to a problem they don't know the answer to.

what i ask is not the anwer. i still am not able to take my book with me to another room. why not?

If you go to the dock at the bottom of the screen you will see system preferences. Click on it to open it. In the third row down (usually) you will see an icon that says Network. When you click on it you will see a list of network devices on the left side of the window that is open. In that list will be Ethernet, FireWire, and Wi-Fi. If Wi-Fi is not listed, you do not have a wireless card active in your OS. To fix this go to the bottom of the list, you will see a littl plus symbol. Push the plus symbol to add a network connection. In the menu that pops up you will see a drop down next to "interface." If Wi-Fi is not in that list, you do not have the hardware installed in the laptop for you to use wireless. The missing piece of hardware is called an airport card. It was not standard for laptops to have them when your iBook was made.

If however, you discover that the Wi-Fi is present, you need to set it up to work with your wireless network. As I have no idea how that is configured, I can only guess at what you may need to set up. You'll need to make sure you are connecting to the wireless network that you use by selecting the Wi-Fi device and clicking "advanced" in the bottom right corner of the window. From there you will need to make sure your network settings are configured correctly.
