I recently got a broken electronic viewfinder (evf) facing glass a6000 off ebay and I will soon replace it with a viewfinder vf unit assembly from water damaged camera. I found this View Finder VF Unit Assembly from ebay which has changed my mind about replacing the whole evf since it seems that the focusing glass is a separate part than having to replace the evf completely. Found a VF Viewfinder block with display screen Assy that I could also use but since I have the water damaged silver a6000 body I plan to disassemble it and replace it’s vf unit instead. I have the service manual if it helps but I do find the Sony α6000 Motherboard Replacement ifixit more helpful to disassemble the camera.

Hi @joji22 , curious how your repair went. I have a Sony a6000 that suffered a fall recently that resulted in viewfinder damage (protective glass broke and now the diopter does not want to focus the screen). I am assuming I need to replace the entire "VF-Viewfinder-block-with-display-screen-Assy". Did you attempt it and does it require as much disassembly as removing the entire motherboard? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

@swells0401, just posed the Motherboard replacement because it shows how to disassemble the camera. No need to remove the motherboard and might not even have to remove the back case. I haven't done my replacement yet.

I replaced the vf finder block last Sunday and only had to remove the top case and loosen the back case. I am thinking of creating a guide for this since the guide that suggested doesn't give the detail of removing the vf plus there are a few steps missing in the above guide.

That would be much appreciated! Thanks.

@joji22 I am curious...the “injury” to my a6000 was not to the actual viewfinder LED screen but to the outer protective glass. I ordered the part labeled “viewfinder cover” thinking the protective glass was part of that but there was no glass on the part I received. Can you confirm the protective glass is in fact part of the more extensive viewfinder block/eyepiece display screen? Thanks!

yep, unscrew the screws holding the screen in,

(There were 2 at the bottom edge and a couple on the back when you tilt it out... )

Then remove the loose(ish) plastic pieces below the back metal plate...

After which, two orange circuit straps..?(not sure what to call them) which connect the screen to the camera body will be revealed.

Remove with tweezers.

Then use said tweezers to insert circuit straps from the replacement screen & proceed to replace the plastic pieces, metal plate & screws.

Voila!
