I connected my usb cable to my computer but the connection icon won't show up in the status bar and my phone won't show up on the computer, either. It stays in charge mode and I don't know how to access the usb connection options or what is wrong.

Hi,
Don't know the setup of your particular phone brand. In this regard different brands can vary as to the location (if any) of the USB connection options. A lot are only visible once the PC has been connected via a working USB cable.
Therefore try the following and see if anyone of them resolves your problem.
1. Try a different USB cable and/or USB port in your PC?
2. Visually inspect the USB port in your phone (with a magnifying glass) to ensure that there are no bent or broken connectors or dust in the slot. Do not prod about with anything if there is something in there. You may cause more damage. If it is lint or dust try to remove it with a vacuum cleaner.
3. Go to Menu > Settings > Storage > tap on 'settings' icon (3 vertical dots) in top right corner, tap on USB computer connection. Select option.
4. Go to Menu > Settings > Applications (Apps) > Development > USB Debugging ensure it is enabled.

I have tried to do as mentioned in point no.3, but I couldn't select USB computer connection, since it is disabled. What should I do now?
You have to connect with the PC first and then try the procedure. USB computer connection will enable.
I have the exact se problem. Amd ik its not my phone cord cuz I just recently bought it. I have a Lg G stylo and I went to settings and "storage & usb" and I have 3 dots but its to switch to "list view" not menu. So how would I fix my problem?

It didn't work for you because the answer above was for a BLU phone not a LG Stylo. Not all phones work the same way ;-)
Here' a link that shows how to do it for a LG Stylo 2V. It should be the same for your model.
My phone - Android 7 - doesn't have 3 dots in the upper right hand corner in the storage screen.

Go to Settings, then Advance, then Developer Options (you may have to press that selection five or six times until it unlocks), then in Developer Options select scroll down to the near bottom and select USB Connection.
It will give a number of options to select what you want the USB to do: Charging, File transfer, photo transfer, RNDIS, Audio Source, and MIDI.

I don't know what will happen if you're not set at charging and then your phone runs out of power.
Hopefully it will reset to charging automatically if the power runs out.
The phone will still charge. The default setting is for "charging only".
I have made the changes but still does not connect to pc. This is bunk!

If it still won't connect to a PC try the following.
Try starting the phone in safe mode to see if it will connect OK to a PC.
Not quite sure with a Blu phone but with most Android phones to get into safe mode, turn the phone off by pressing the Power button. When the shutdown menu options appear press and hold the Power Off option. There should be an option to start the phone in 'safe mode' Tap that and allow the phone to restart. Once in safe mode see if you can now connect to a PC.
If you can then a downloaded app is the cause of the problem.
The trick is to find out which one. You need to uninstall each downloaded app one by one and test the phone between each uninstall to see if it now works OK. If it does the last app that you uninstalled is the culprit.
To get out of safe mode, simply turn off the phone in the normal manner and restart it.
If it still won't connect to a PC in safe mode, try a hard reset.
Be aware that a hard reset will erase all your data and downloaded apps. It will restore the phone to its factory default condition, (or last system updated condition).
Perform a backup of the phone, using the phone's backup feature first, before you do a hard reset.
Then perform a hard reset using the phone's factory restore feature.
Once the phone has been reset, try connecting to a PC via USB.
If it works, restore the phone with the backup that you made earlier, using the phone's restore feature.
Once it has been restored, check if you can connect to a PC via USB.
If you can then the reset has resolved the problem.

I went to my phone store for help and it works on their computer. It was the USB cable. Apparently, newer phones like ours NEED a newer style USB cable. Old cables are fine for charging.... Crazy!!! but it works now....geez!
Thank you very much, your advise helps me. I did not get access to USB options also OTG does not works. I found that XIAOMI MIHOME app stucks these modes.

Track Phone / Straight talk lgl163bl version the option of connecting to the PC to access files is blocked by the service as you could go into developer mode and enable internet tethering. So from what I see instead of just blocking that option they have blocked all but the charging option??
The only way to get files and pictures off the device is to move them to the external storage and then remove it from the phone and take them off the card…I could go on a rant but I always learn the hard way.. I just cant let this last one go! Latest was the Verizon ellipsis 10 Not at all as advertised and now 2 years worth of problems later it has just been discontinued and still not completely as advertised.
The main lesson learned here is not all Android devices are complete versions with all the options and unfortunately for us we do not have the option to have this information before we are lied to and contract..

I have tracphone too and it didn't occur to me that tracphone might be blocking things - I wish they'd even NOTIFY you!! I did wonder if it was the security system.
I powered down and restarted my phone and it then gave me a notification that it was "usb charging" and "tap to see more options". So I did, and it offered me media transfer using MTP, which I enabled and now it has found all my phone photos and is busily importing them to my pc - except it did not ask me where to put them so heaven knows where they will turn up (if at all). Ah. Pictures. Well! At least I have them. Now I can free up my phone ...

I have done everything he on top says although dont get it. The best thing to do is check the USB cables and inquire if a specific type of one is needed for that sort of thing, such as in a store where there are technology people working

ainght since i tried option A and B, and C seems to be a general complain on Androids, and D wasnt functional for me either.. im going to go ahead and try JB600s option.. and check out a good old tech store on monday, see if trying another cable there may work.. Thanks.

My issue was definitely the cord. The phone would connect to the PC for a minute, then disconnect. I thought I was using the original cord for the phone but it turned out to be the cord for my tablet. Like someone else said, it may work for charging but NOT for data transfer. Once I connected the correct cord, no further issues.

Some micro USB cables are for CHARGING only! So even a brand new cable may not work - How confusing!!!

I have this problem, can’t change de usb option, the menu just won’t let me it pops up super quick and then dissapears, here’s a video so you get what I mean.

I did have time to see that it was on "charging only"
But how to get pop-up to remain so I can select MTP mode?

Upgrading of firmware to newer version did not reset options.
Still won't allow pop-up to remain open so I can select MTP.

Hi there, I have been hacked and am being gangstalked. I am not mentally ill although they have tried to convince everyone that I am. I have seen Dr's and psychiatrists who believe in me. They have control of every phone I get even if I factory reset or buy new. I change my passwords and have strong Google passwords in place. I run avast antivirus and VPN on my Alcatel 500z2s phone. (Android version 10) I'm currently waiting to here from Alcatel. I want to change my usb option to charge only but have no options. I also can't find developer mode or disable my Bluetooth. I have an issue with my phone being so hot it burns my fingertips and my battery drains quickly. Amongst other things like fake ads, password changes etc. I can visually see someone operating my phone and laptop. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi, Contact a reputable professional mobile phone repair service and ask them to check your phone.
Show them what you believe is happening and then see what they say about it.
Getting a professional 3rd party (who doesn't know you etc) to check the phone may help you to be more comfortable with using the phone if there is a problem that can be fixed, rather than trying to fix it yourself.
I’ve had the same problem. What I’ve found is one of my USB cables works fine and I get asked if I want to transfer files for the other cables that doesn’t happen. The USB cable that works is shorter than the others. I recommend buying a few different small USB cables and see if that helps.
