Asus Laptop stopped powering on

Last week my computer started taking a lonnnng time to start booting – power light on, harddisk light blinking, black screen. Sometimes it would take 30 minutes to an hour for it to finally show something on the screen, ultimately the asus logo would come up and boot. Now it won’t boot at all. Same symptoms – power light on, charging light functions normal (orange when charging, green when full), blinking harddisk light (once every 3 seconds or so), CAPSlock light is always on for some reason. I tried reseating the RAM. Nothing. Connecting to an external monitor, nothing, so that rules out a bad display or display connection.

I am thinking it could be GPU. Maybe I need to reflow the chips? I just don’t have the experience, so I don’t want to try that. Maybe the motherboard is going bad?

It sucks that this is 2.5 years old and the warranty was only 2 years. Now its broken…

I agree with Bradly Meinz on the Hard drive and the ram . You may want to do a static discharge for good measure .When booting takes a long time it tends to be hard drive related in a lot of cases. As for reflowing the solder in the GPU there are a lot of people who will tell you go for it and others who will say no. If you have a hot air station and have the right flux and know go hot it needs to be then go for it, otherwise there's a good chance you'll toast the chip . by the way I would leave the bios alone unless something happened to cause the bios damage if the laptop has uefi bios then its an easy flash but some older bios can be a bit of a treat

Try replacing the hard drive or flashing the BIOS...... The first is easy the second however, you will have to google sense it can be very different on some computers. Try replacing you ram as well, they do go bad. Also what are your specs? It may be that windows did some updates that messed with your computer speed. This has happened to me on my hp pavilion all i did was add more ram and it worked.
