Does the problem occur in all the games you own, or just one? Does that trigger feel like it responds differently than the L2 trigger? If it only occurs in some games, it may be a software glitch, in which case you can try reinstalling the game if its installed on your system, or try a different copy of the game to rule out a disk defect.

If it feels different than its counterpart on the left side of the controller, then the spring may be the issue. If you play alot of shooters, especially ones that use the R2 trigger, the spring may have just warn down over time.

No problem! If your comfortable doing so, you can try replacing the trigger yourself, however if you do so plan it out and study the process carefully. Its really easy to take it apart in such a way as to make it more difficult to put it back together when your finished.

You need to replace the rubber membrane - the trigger has a plastic blade in it which pushes on the rubber, and eventually wears it down - see the link below for a picture/description of the problem. If you don't want to order/wait for new parts in the mail, you can remove the trigger button, put a glob of epoxy in the hole, and that will fix it.

The above answers may very well be your issue, but I have experienced a different issue that seems much more likely. The exact same thing happened with my DS4. At the base of each trigger there are two plastic pins that snap into a pair of clips; this is how the triggers rotate inward when you press them. The issue arises when one of the pins (usually on R2-the most often used, and abused, "fire" button in most FPS) breaks off. When one of the pins breaks off, the spring that provides the satisfying resistance pushes the broken side of the trigger out of its clip, and when pressed, the trigger does not always reach the afore mentioned button membrane. To resolve the issue, I purchased a bag of triggers (assorted L1, L2, R1 & R2) that also came with springs for when they lose their "springiness" for ~$10 on eBay. I believe there is already a guide for how to install them on iFixit or another website.

heres a similar listing for replacement triggers: $9.89 for 10 pairs (L2, R2) and 20 springs to go with them.
